Testmanagement skaliert

Quality as a success factor

Test management in a scaled environment (e.g. SAFe)

Classic test management is only described in a few agile frameworks. There is no longer a dedicated role for the tasks of the test manager in a scaled environment. That is the common opinion, even among many experts. However, in practice, our customers have shown that the classic coordination, planning and control methods of test managers are still in demand.

Test management – our services

Tools and how to use them in test management

We are strong in the effective implementation of the test manager role in a scaled agile environment. We know the problem areas when scaling and are convinced that this role offers real added value.

Quality from the start

Quality assurance and testing also need to have their place in an agile project/company organization. Large parts of a classic quality assurance process should be implemented as early as possible in the development process (see our Quality Shift-Left services)

The larger the project and the more teams are involved, the risk of losing track increases. A central role for coordination with a focus on quality, as well as efficiency and cost-effectiveness closes this gap and can create real added value.

Waterfall vs. Agile in terms of test management

In a software development project using the waterfall method, testing including test management is an integral part of the planning. Unfortunately, quality assurance measures often come into effect too late. This results in costs that could be prevented by early testing. The test manager in an agile environment ensures that quality assurance is included and effectively implemented from the first step in the development process and does not just exist in the process definition, especially in audit-relevant projects.

Which tool is the right one?

To meet the challenges of agile quality assurance, various test management tools and methods are used. For example, agile testing methods such as continuous integration and continuous delivery can help to automate and accelerate the testing process. The most common test management tools on the market can also make it easier to coordinate and monitor testing activities. From test management, test data creation and management to requirements engineering.

We will find the right tool for you and help you to integrate it into your project architecture accordingly.

SPF - Mitarbeiter Jonathan Kiessling

After our customer successfully switched to an agile framework, it quickly became apparent that the need for the role of test manager is important and valued even in a scaled environment. That is why the role was permanently included in the specific agile customer framework.

The most common questions about test management

Since this role does not explicitly exist in SAFe, many projects struggle with the coordination of quality assurance measures at the ART or Solution level. The RTEs are often the driving force behind the coordination and advancement of shift-left measures. In addition, test managers are assigned to the PI owners to coordinate testing at this level.
